Our Story

Hi, we’re Andrew and Amber Prather, MDiv seminarians at St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. We are both seminary students. Due to the birth of our daughter, we will be here an extra year. We both came as single students, and were married in our second year. We had our daughter in our third year, and Amber took a semester off, but resumed full time student status in January 2023. Although I (Andrew) had financially saved enough money before coming to seminary to get through as a single student, I had not planned on marriage or parenthood. Please consider donating to our education, or, better yet, check out my shop and purchase a print. All proceeds help us cover seminary expenses as well as cost of living expenses. Westchester County, NY—where St Vladimir’s Seminary is located—is rated to be one of the highest counties for cost of living in the United States. Your donation is a great help, no matter how small. As time goes on, our funds continue to dwindle, and Amber’s student loans from her first year of seminary will resume once the Student Loan Covid measures expire. The costs of relocation after seminary are also looming, which will be several thousand dollars.

Prefer to donate through a 501c3 organization for tax purposes? Send checks to St Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church of Pella, Iowa or St Elizabeth the New Martyr Orthodox Christian Church of Poulsbo, WA with Prather Seminary Fund in the memo line.

I do not know what the future holds. My peers and professors are pushing me towards ordination, but I have not yet pursued this option. My current plan is to get established after seminary, and then decide.

I currently belong to the Diocese of the Midwest (OCA). My wife came from the Diocese of the West (OCA) and is a missionary candidate for OCMC. We do not yet fully know where life will take us after seminary.

Make a donation.

We are immensely grateful for the generosity of our donors. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donations to our seminary fund. Your support allows us, as full-time seminary students, to cover the various expenses we incur while pursuing our theological education. With your contributions, we will be able to focus on our studies without financial burden, enabling us to become well-equipped servants of the Orthodox Church.

“The Master of Divinity is a graduate professional degree designed primarily for qualified Orthodox seminarians preparing for ordination to the priesthood. It is also an appropriate degree for those preparing for hospital chaplaincy with certification in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). The M.Div. prepares individuals for graduate studies in theology and related disciplines..”
